While hiking in Sedona, I was searching for a method to make my paintings reflect the incredible depth in the red rock I was observing. I kept thinking of copper, because I have played a bit with copper embellishment in my Desert Lotus Altars, and the red earth here so clearly resembles this ancient mineral with all it's natural verde valley patinas. By using a historic method of metalworking called repoussé, that dates back to the Assyrians and Phoenicians, I began pushing and shaping the formations to resemble the dimensions of the landscape. The result is an experience of light and dimensional color that reflects and illuminates the unique formations we so love. Copper has been a dominant mineral for millenniums, has a long history on earth and was predominant in the mining towns here in Arizona. Call for an appointment to view this unique series of dimensional landscapes on 2-D panels.
